Dr.Han: Hello! Nice to meet you, Mike. What brings you here?

Mike: It’s my ankle. I twisted my right ankle badly on Sunday.
-접질리다: sprain, twist

Dr.Han:
How did you get hurt?

Mike:
I sprained my ankle while I was climbing* Gwanak mountain. I stepped on an uneven surface and that was it. I thought I broke my ankle.
*언덕느낌의 가벼운 산은 hiking, 가파르고 힘든 산은 climbing을 써도 무방합니다

Dr.Han:
I’ll do a percussion test to check if there’s any possibility of a fracture. Does it hurt when I tap on your heel?

Mike:
No.

Dr.Han:
How about this part?

Mike
: No.

Dr.Han:
Ok. I don’t think you have a fractured bone. Those who have a fracture have trouble walking so they often have to use crutches*. To explain specifically, ankle sprains are some of the most common sports injuries, often recurring again and again. In most cases the ankle is rolled outwards, resulting in damage to the lateral ligaments on the outside of the ankle. This is known as an inversion ankle sprain.
* crutch: 목발

Mike:
How long do you think it takes to recover?

Dr.Han:
Well. It depends on the severity of the injury but usually it takes a week or so* to ease the pain and about a month to fully recover its strength.
* a week or so: 대략 1주일 내외(5~9일)

Mike:
All right doctor. Is there anything I can do at home to help it recover?

Dr.Han:
I suggest that you apply an ice pack on the injured ankle for the first 2~3 days and a warm pack afterwards.

Mike:
Thank you doctor!

Dr.Han:
You’re welcome, Mike. Take care.
